Handcrafted using the impression of a mid-Eighteenth-Century Roman Wax Seal. The tortoise turtle is a common charge in Heraldry as traditionally the tortoise symbolized longevity, patience and practicality; strength and time. The turtle is one of independence because it takes its home with it and is well protected. The name Tortoise is given to the ancient Roman protective shelter formed by soldiers with shields overlapping above their heads during war times. As the feminine power of the waters the Tortoise was an emblem of Aphrodite/Venus and of Hermes/Mercury in Greco-Roman myths. The turtle’s hard shell is representative of one who is invulnerable to attack.
